[TUTORIAL] Natalie Portman for art_battle

Ok... This is going to be my first tutorial, so lemme know if something's wrong or not clear. This was created for art_battle, so don't hesitate to check this community. It's fun and new and well... different.

1. Open your picture. I chose this picture (well, it was the theme of the battle). Then create a white canvas (800x600 for mine).

2. Back to the picture. Select a part of Natalie with the rectangular marquee tool with the feather set to 0. Drag this selection into your blank canvas. Resize it (ctrl+T) to fit your canvas. For this work, I decided I wanted to focus on Natalie's body, so I selected parts of her with this idea. Same for the resizing. I also didn't search to "cut" Natalie in 2 or 3. If you look closely, you'll see that the croppings forget some parts of her body. The images are also resize differently, to emphasize Natalie's body.
I'm not an expert in cropping, I often let the chance decides for me. Sometimes it looks good! :)

3. Arrange the parts to "recreate" Natalie, but keep regular spaces between the images. Arrange them into your canvas. Merge.
So far, that looks like this

4. Duplicate your layer 4 times. Put the first 2 duplicated layers to "screen" 100% opacity. Put the 3rd to "soft light" 100% opacity and the 4th one to "overlay" 100% opacity. It now looks like this
Of course, this depends completely on how dark is your image. And don't forget you can achieve this kind of results quicker by using the levels (ctrl+L).

5. Add a layer and fill it with a dark blue (#132b49) and set it to... how original... "exlusion" opacity 100%. Make it looks like this

6. New layer. With the rectangular marquee tool, select 2 rectangles around the images.
Tip: to make 2 selections at the same time, draw the first one and then draw the second one holding the "shift" key down.
Fill these selection with white. Mmmm, that covers the image... Press ctrl and click on one of the layers with the images, that will load the selection. Then hit "delete". Set this layer to "soft light" 100% opacity. That now looks like this

7. Texture's time. Add this texture by me (use with credit, please). Set the layer to "multiply" 79% opacity. Begins to look interesting! preview here

8. Time to add some brushes. Add them on different layers, so you can play with the blending mode and the opacity. For this work, I used brushes from Digital Bristle and from Parenthese, foleydurden's domain. All in black, either in "soft light" or "overlay" with different opacities. Don't hesitate to play with them. It now looks like this

9. Now some text. I usually use very few fonts on my work. 2 different fonts are often enough. But on this one I used 4 different fonts.
- Bickman Script Pro for "sensuality", 172 px, in black, layer set to "overlay", 100% opacity. Duplicate it once, set to "soft light", 43% opacity.
- Blackletter686 BT for "Mélanie Vs Arijana", 72 px, in black, layer set to "soft light", 74% opacity.
- Oak for "Round 7", 72 px, in black, layer set to "overlay", 100% opacity.
- Century gothic for the tiny text, 4 px, tracking to 200, all caps (I think), in black, layer set to "overlay", opacity 100%, duplicated twice.
It now looks like this

Almost done!

10. Last step: another texture, still by me. Set to "overlay", 75% opacity. It makes the colours looking more vibrant and adds a few "subliminal" effects.

Tada, FINISHED!!
